Blooming Prairie senior Tommy Braaten came up with his best outing of the year at the right time on the first day of the Minnesota Class A state golf meet in Becker Monday.
Braaten shot a BP school record score of 68 to put him in first place with a lead of four shots heading into Tuesday’s final round.
“Tommy was dialed in all day,” BP head coach Cory Hendrickson said. “He always hits his irons well and today his putter was working as well. It was fun to watch.”
BP’s Taylor Christianson is sixth in the girls’ field with a score of 81. She trails Callie Wersal of Springfield by seven strokes.
“Taylor is very strong off the tee but today her short game was outstanding as well,” Hendrickson said. “She put herself in a great position going into the final round tomorrow.”
After the first 18 holes, the BP boys are in sixth place in team competition with a score of 347.
