Letter: Thanks for supporting Project Graduation

This year’s Project Graduation, “Class of 2017…Cruising into the Future,” took place Friday, June 9, 2017, at Austin High School (AHS) following the AHS graduation ceremony. This event has been held each year since 1989 for Austin-area graduates to celebrate the end of high school in a safe environment. Planning begins in January and concludes with a fun-filled night of games, food, entertainment, prizes and gifts for the students. This year 163 students participated in Project Graduation.
We are extremely thankful for the amazing support of this community. Thank you to all of the businesses, organizations and community members who donated food, money, prizes and your services to Project Graduation. Without your support this event would not be possible.
Thank you also to the 119 volunteers who planned and staffed the event, Pete Nelson and the AHS custodial staff, the reserve officers from the Austin Police Department, Katie Baskin, Sandy Detwiler, many other AHS staff members, and the Austin Public Schools administration. Project Graduation was a success because of each of you. The students who attended were very appreciative of all that was given by our community for this event. Based on feedback from them, the entire night was a success.
We thank all of you for your very generous support of Project Graduation, and we congratulate the class of 2017!
Deb Goodew and Cathy Hirst,
