Betty A. Arett, 89, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

Betty Ann Chinander was born July 26, 1927, in Austin, the daughter of Stanley and Flossie (Taylor-Klingsheim) Chinander. She attended Austin Public Schools. On March 1, 1943, Betty married Raymond E. Arett in Owatonna, Minnesota. The couple was blessed with eight children. Aside from her role as homemaker, Betty held several jobs over the years, including those at the Normandy Café, Holtz Drug, Minnesota Café, Tempo, and Super Fresh. She thoroughly enjoyed working at Super Fresh, both in the greenhouse for many years then inside the store in the old and the new buildings. Gardening was a special thrill for her, seeing everything emerge in the spring and go to sleep for the winter then the snow would make everything sparkle. She was a charter member of Fellowship United Methodist Church, belonged to Church Women United, Christian Women’s United, the class of 1944 breakfast and lunch group, and was involved in the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Betty loved decorating, baking, and cooking, and was always ready to try new recipes out on her friends.  She welcomed the opportunity to be hostess at any time, and truly loved to do it.  Betty was most proud of her happy marriage and her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren, then great-grandchildren. Each and every child was so very special to her, and a treasure to enjoy. Her family will miss her dearly.

Betty is survived by her children, Dale Arett of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Gayle (Howard) Oldenkamp of Austin, Rea (Mark) Gotz of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, Dee (Steve) Sebesta of Deltona, Florida, Lee (Dale) Wicks and Rita (Curt) Srock, both of Austin, and Ellen (Kenny) Hoefker of Worthington, Minnesota; 22 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Ginny Palmer, Janet (Glen) Roberts-Valek of Austin, Mary King of Alameda, California, and Margo Arett of Blaine, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; daughter, Cheryl Kay; grandson, Christopher Arett; sisters, Joyce Bailey and Eva Tuchek; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church in Austin with the Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 11, at Worlein Funeral Home in Austin, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Austin. Memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society or a recipient of the donor’s choice.
