What do playing golf and fighting cancer have in common?

You can do both this Saturday during the Fourth Annual Hoot and Ole’s Paint the Town Pink Golf Tournament. All proceeds will go toward funding cancer research at the Hormel Institute, University of Minnesota.

“Everyone has been touched by cancer,” said Hoot and Ole’s and Judy Too co-owner Jeremy “Ole” Olson. “We all know someone who has it or has had it. My father is battling cancer, so it’s personal for me.”

Hoot, Ole and Judy are no strangers to cancer fundraising. They and their team, the Dutchtown Jumpers, have consistently raised the most money for the annual Paint the Town Pink event.

According to Olson, last year’s golf tournament raised over $6,000.

Pre-tournament registration costs $55 per person, while registering the day of the tournament costs $65 per person. Included in the cost are 18 holes of golf, a cart, green fees and a lunch of hot dogs, chips and water halfway through the course.

After the tournament, live and silent auctions will be held at Hoot and Ole and Judy Too. Items up for auction include a baseball bat signed by Kent Hrbek, four Twins tickets with seats in the Legend’s Club, and an outdoor cooler donated by Martha Vrieze and Greg Rud.

A dinner of sloppy joes, salad, chips and dessert, included in the registration fee, will be served at the bar.

Competitors can sign up in teams of four or can come as individuals and be placed into teams. Olson said as of Monday, June 12, there were 20 teams registered. He encouraged everyone to come out and participate.

“This event gives back to the community, helps the fundraising efforts of Paint the Town Pink and drives research efforts at the Hormel Institute to find a cure,” he said. “It’s a fun event and everyone has a good time.”
