“We have someone who makes needle points, someone who does hand-embroidered towels,” said Flea Market Coordinator Tessa Smith. “We have someone who handcrafts patio furniture sets. They are high quality items.”

Along with the aforementioned items, shoppers can also find collectibles, sports memorabilia, crafts, handmade soaps and refurbished items, among other things.

Smith encourages people to attend, both to help promote recycle items and to find a good deal.

“I believe in reusing items,” she said. “It helps keep history alive. There is something for every price range.”

The flea market will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during set-up on Friday. The market will also be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free.

Sixth Annual Darren Dash

Lace up your running shoes and get ready to run, because the Darren Dash is this weekend.

Now in its sixth year, the Darren Dash was started to honor Austin native and running enthusiast Darren Lewis, who passed away in 2011. Proceeds from the race help fund programs that benefit physical and mental health and scholarships for Austin cross country runners.

This year’s event will feature three races: a half marathon, 5K and kiddie run. The races will begin at 8, 8:15 and 11 a.m., respectively, on Sunday. All races will begin and end at Lafayette Park.

You can register online at www.darrendash.org, at Lewis Physical Therapy and Fitness Center before June 2, at the Eagles from 5 to 8 p.m. on June 3 or at Lafayette Park from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. on June 4.
