Arnold Henry Matter, 95, of Waltham, Minnesota, passed away on June 9, 2017, at Field Crest Care Center in Hayfield, Minnesota.

Arnold was born on Aug. 31, 1921, the son of Herman and Anna (Milius) Matter in Waltham.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1946. He was united in marriage to Leola Frese Howe on Dec. 19, 1971.

Arnold lived all of his life in Waltham and worked in plumbing and heating. Arnold enjoyed fishing and his cabin on Lake Vermillion.

Arnold is survived by his son, James Howe, St. Ansgar, Iowa; daughter, Linda (Gary) Bork, St. Ansgar; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Anita Senjem, Hayfield; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leola in 2008; two sisters, Beata Juhnke and Tillie Paape; one brother, Russell; and one great-grandson, Jordan Howe.

The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 30450 570th Avenue, Waltham, MN, with Reverend Dwight DoBell officiating.

Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.

Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors by the Hayfield American Legion, Rothie Post 330.
