Abel Gebrekiros

At Austin High School, in my junior year, I was involved in a school activity called Link Crew. Link Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes freshmen and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their high school experience.

Academically, I’m a pretty decent student with a GPA of 3.6 in my first semester of senior year. Even if there is a language barrier that interrupts me from getting all A’s in my subjects, I’m working harder to improve my language and achieve all I want in my second semester.

Through my school career I was in varsity track and soccer activities. In my junior year I started participating in track and soccer activities right after I came from Ethiopia in 2015. I am always glad that I played soccer as an Austin Packer. All the players and coaches are amazing, and we had a great time and season this year. This team and my coach helped me to achieve All-State First Team Midfielder.

In the fall of 2017 I will be attending the University of Wisconsin Parkside (A Division II college) or Iowa (Division I junior community college) with scholarships. I will decide where I will go after I take my ACT.

I plan on pursuing computer science as my major. Computer science is a major that I have wanted to achieve since I was a child. My plan after I graduate from college will be to end up living in St. Paul, MN and work as a computer programmer.

Kathy Sforza and Mr. Jens Levisen have had a positive impact on my academic and sport activities. Mr. Levisen helped me by contacting a lot of colleges in order to get me a soccer scholarship, as well as helping me in the field and outside of the field. Mrs. Sforza is the other teacher that has had a positive impact on my academic life in school She is the closest person that I ask questions and get help with a lot of things that I need.
