Two area athletes earned trip to the Class A state track and field meet on the first day of the Section 1A meet in Elgin Wednesday.

Blooming Prairie’s Sam Wurst earned a trip to state in the high jump and Hayfield’s Katrina Thoe earned a trip to state in the discus.

The second day of the Section 1A meet will be held Thursday.
