While in high school, Tom was a dedicated Packer fan who seldom, if ever, missed an Austin High School football, basketball or baseball game. He also loved to play pool, which led him to become an age-level tournament champion at the Shaw gym several times. Later, Tom enjoyed watching sports and was a true fan of the Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Diamondbacks. He loved Minnesota, especially spending time with family, and fishing in northern Minnesota.
