Woman allegedly flagged down police after running out of gas while she had methamphetamines in car

A woman facing drug charges in another case has pleaded not guilty to  charges of having more than 14 grams of methamphetamine when she flagged down a cop for help after her car ran out of gas.

Thania Sanchez, 24

Thania Sanchez, 24, appeared in Mower County District Court on Monday on charges of felony third-degree drug possession for having more than 10 grams of a narcotic, a gross misdemeanor charge for third-degree DWI for failing to submit to a chemical test, and two misdemeanors: fourth-degree DWI for driving under the influence of a controlled substance and driving after revocation.

According to court records, at about 8:39 p.m. on Monday, May 8, an Adams officer was flagged down by Sanchez on the 400 block of Bergen Street, as she was requesting help because her 2005 Ford Explorer was out of gas and her phone battery was dead.

The officer charged her phone and let her sit in his squad to warm up. After informing the officer she didn’t have a valid license, Sanchez walked back to her car to call a relative or taxi for a ride.

However, she left her phone charger with the cop, who then went to return it.

After finding the car didn’t have a front license plate, a back license plate came back expired out of Hennepin County and the tab matched a different vehicle out of Cottonwood County.

Soon the Mower County Sheriff’s Office became involved in the incident. Sanchez showed signs of being on drugs, but refused DWI tests.

About 14.5 grams of meth was found in the Ford, but Sanchez refused to submit to testing.

Sanchez previously pleaded not guilty in a case stemming from an incident where she was allegedly busted during a drug deal.

In that case, she faces charges for possessing methamphetamine paraphernalia in the presence of a child, a felony, and gross misdemeanors for fifth-degree drug possession and counterfeit currency-possessing or uttering.
