The No. 6 seeded Southland softball team upset No. 3 Goodhue (7-11 overall) 3-2 in eight innings to keep its season alive in the Section 1A East tournament opener on the road Monday.

Southland took the lead for good in the top of the eighth when Lily Riddles came up with a two-out double and Taylor Bhend knocked her in with an RBI single. Bhend also picked up the pitching win as she scattered eight hits and seven walks.

“Lately we’ve been very competitive and it kind of rolled over to this game,” Southland head coach Greg Schultz said. “We played good defense and having no errors helps out a lot. We got out of jams.”
