Packers rally past Spartans to get a sweep

The Austin baseball team bounced back from a slow start as it swept a doubleheader from Rochester Mayo (11-8 overall, 6-5 Big Nine) by scores of 7-6 and 13-3 in Seltz Field.

The Spartans scored three runs in the top of the first inning of the first game, but Austin (11-9 overall, 7-5 Big Nine) was able to bounce back and take over.

Hunter Guyette had five RBIs on the day for the Packers and Josi Both and Nate Murphy each had a pitching win.

Austin, which won its last five games of the regular season, will open Section 1AAA tournament play Saturday.

“We are playing our best baseball of the season and we hope to continue that,” Austin head coach Joe Kroc said. “We have an important week of practice to tighten up some things before Saturday.”
