Motorcycle riders sent to hospital following crash; SUV driver cited after the incident

Two motorcycle passengers were taken to the hospital for road rash injuries and another driver was cited after a motorcycle struck an SUV in Austin on Tuesday.

Austin police responded to a crash at 11:56 a.m. Tuesday near the intersection of First Avenue and 11th Street Southwest, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.

A 19-year-old male was driving a 1987 Honda motorcycle eastbound on First Avenue, a oneway, in the northbound lane when a 2013 Chevy Equinox backed out of a driveway into traffic.

The motorcycle struck the rear of the SUV and lost control. The driver and an 18-year-old male passenger were both taken by a private vehicle to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin for road rash-related injuries.

The driver of the Equinox, an 81-year-old woman was cited for failing to yield while entering a roadway. She and a passenger in the SUV were not injured.
