Elizabeth “Betty” Schummer, 90, of Le Roy, Minnesota, died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at her home.

She was born Dec. 3, 1926, in Sturgis, South Dakota, the daughter of Peter and Mabel (Simme) Schummer. Betty moved into the Adams Group Home in 1982, and then in 1991 moved to Le Roy, where she resided for approximately 25 years with three other friends. Betty enjoyed being a part of her community, working at the Kids Carnival during the Summerfest and the annual Easter Egg Hunt, which had been held for many years in Betty’s backyard. Betty touched the hearts of all people she met. She had a smile and a wave for everyone. She enjoyed working every day at the Cedar Branch DAC. When work ran out, she still enjoyed going, if only to be with her friends. Betty enjoyed the national pastime of coloring; however, Betty took this hobby very seriously. If you didn’t do it right, you lost your privileges to color with her. Betty also held a special place in her heart for animals, spending many summer afternoons at the Ironwood Springs Ranch and the National Eagle Center in Wabasha. Betty became very attached to the eagles, and took her love of them to her home, where she decorated her bedroom with the eagle theme.

Survivors include her Le Roy family. Betty, we thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your life. We are so honored, and we will remember your smile and your wave as we say our goodbyes. You will always be a part of the LeRoy community and your memory will forever be with us.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2017, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, Minnesota. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lansing Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to a recipient of donor’s choice.
