Dorothy Leone Lind

Dorothy Leone Lind, 98,  passed away on Feb. 2, 2017, at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin, Minnesota.

She was born March 9, 1919, in Estherville, Iowa, to Milton and Hazel (Bliss) Barlow. She received her education in Estherville schools and graduated in 1938. On March 16, 1939, Dorothy married Alden Lind. He passed away on June 3, 2005, and they were blessed with 66 years of marriage.

Dorothy was a longtime member of Estherville Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and was active in Ladies Aid and Circle. She was a homemaker and also cleaned homes for others. She enjoyed gardening, cooking (often copying recipes from magazines while in waiting rooms or the beauty shop), traveling with Alden, helping others and spending time with friends, especially her family. She moved to Austin in 2012, to be near family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Barbara Mingeldorff of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Merlyn (Betty) Lind of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, Gary Lind (Joleen Schmidtke) of Estherville, and Carmen (Gale) Heidecker of Austin; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way; four great-grandchildren; her sister, Bonnie (John) Montgomery of Broomfield, Colorado; and cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alden; daughter-in-law, Karla; son-in-law, Huey; sisters, Iva and Helen; brothers, Vern and Loren; her step-mother, Elna; one unborn granddaughter; two unborn great-grandsons; and one unborn great-granddaughter.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Estherville Lutheran Church in Estherville. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Eastside Cemetery in Estherville.

Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.
