What does food from Mexico, Venezuela and Nigeria have in common? They will all be under one roof for you to sample.

The eighth annual Taste of Nations will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  Saturday at the El Parral Ballroom. This free event will feature dishes from 20 to 25 nations for visitors to taste.

“This event shows how diverse our community is,” said Riverland Community College Minority Advisor Miguel Garate. “We emphasize how diverse we are and how united we are.”

According to Garate, the event features new dishes every year as well as new nations represented. This year’s new nations include Ethiopia, Nigeria and Peru.

Visitors are able to go around and taste at their leisure. Music and entertainment will also be provided. The event is open to the general public.

“I love this community and all those who live in this community should know the people they live with,” Garate said. “Going to this event you will get to know your peers and the different kind of cultures there are in your community.”
