Austin sophomore Hannah McMasters picked a great time to go on a hot streak as she helped lead the Austin softball team to a 9-8 win over Kasson-Mantorville in eight innings in Todd Park Monday.

The KoMets (1-1 overall) had an 8-5 lead going into the seventh when McMasters brought the Packers within 8-7 when she launched a two-run homer, and McMasters, who had four RBIs, had a walk-off single to win it for the Packers in the eighth.

“[Hannah] had a heck of a day. She was just crushing the ball today,” Austin head coach Al Eckmann said.

The Packers forced extra innings when Jenna Braaten came up with a two-out RBI single to tie things up at 8-8. McMasters’ game-winning RBI was set up when Halie Retterath walked and Hannah Biwer singled to start the frame.

Hannah Rasmussen struck out 10 and walked just one to get the win for the Packers (2-4 overall).

“It’s great for us to get a win. We’ve been struggling a little bit,” Eckmann said. “For us to come from behind to win is fantastic. We just needed a confidence builder.”
