Man bitten by K-9 while eluding police

An Austin man sought on a felony warrant was bitten by a department K-9 dog when the man tried to elude police Saturday.

According to the report, officers executed a felony warrant for Cory Gunsallus, 35. Officers received a tip that Gunsallus was at the 110 block of Third Avenue Southwest, when officers arrived at just before 7 p.m.

A neighbor yelled that Gunsallus was running out the front door. Officers began to chase him; the K-9 was deployed after many attempts were made to have Gunsallus stop.

The K-9 apprehended the suspect, who was taken to Mayo Clinic Health Systems for a bite in his lower left thigh and released to the Mower County Jail with charges of fleeing officers on foot and warrant for felony domestic assault.

While Gunsallus was sentenced to 30 days in jail for fleeing a police officer, but all but two days were stayed. He got two days credit for time served.
