The Lyle-Pacelli baseball team was able to bounce back from an 11-5 loss to Martin Luther as it beat Madelia 10-4 in the LP tournament in Marcusen Park Saturday.
LP (4-2 overall) snapped a two-game skid with its win over Madelia.

“We needed that win after two losses in a row. We had to come out and play well,” said LP junior Taylor Arett. “It wasn’t our best game, but it was a win.”
Arett was the only starter who was older than a sophomore for LP in the second game as the Athetics had three eighth graders and one freshman in the starting lineup. LP head coach Brock Meyer said his young team continues to grow with each game.
“We don’t try to use it as an excuse,” Meyer said. “A lot of these kids are experienced baseball players. It’s all about situational things and learning how to handle the pressure of the varsity side of things. They’re doing a good job. They’re making mistakes, but that’s the only way you learn.”
LP trailed Madelia 2-1 after two innings, but it scored three runs in the the third to take the lead for good when Arett hit a sacrifice fly, Cory Weber doubled in a run and Tanner Murphy knocked in a run.
Weber, a sophomore, went 3-for-4 with four RBIs on the day for LP.
“Brock’s been helping me a lot with getting my swing down and keeping my head on it,” Weber said. “That was my problem last year, it was too much swinging for the fences.”

LP trailed 7-0 to start the game against Martin Luther and it was able to climb within after five innings when Cory Webber knocked in a run. Martin Luther put the game away when it scored four runs in the top of the sixth.
As one of the few veterans on LP’s squad, Arett gave plenty of credit to the younger players on the roster.
“They’ve come a long way so far,” Arett said. “They’ve been putting in work, and time and effort. There’s not much more you can ask for from guys like that.”
