Hungry for donations; Postal carriers, Chamber, seek food for Salvation Army

Austin businesses and postal carriers are hungry for donations.

The Austin Area Chamber of Commerce and its ambassadors are hosting a food drive through May 13 for the Salvation Army as part of the Stamp Our Hunger food drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers and National Rural Letter Carriers Association.

The drive will culminate with mail carriers picking up non-perishable food items from homes on May 13. But the chamber is helping the post office get an early start. It kicked off the food drive at Business After Hours last Tuesday at Smyth Companies. Donations can now be dropped off through May 13 at the Austin Daily Herald, Bremer Bank or Wealth Management Solutions-Ameriprise.

All donations collected by the chamber ambassadors will go to the Stamp Our Hunger drive, which will help stock the Austin Salvation Army.

For the mail carriers, the food drive is a friendly competition against the Albert Lea mail carriers.
