Hazel Bertha Guckeen, 97

Hazel Bertha Guckeen, 97, of Austin, Minnesota, died Sunday, April 23, 2017, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Hazel was born May 4, 1919, in Blue Earth, Minnesota, to Otto and Bertha (Arndt) Arndt. On June 9, 1939, she married Patrick Guckeen in Winnebago, Minnesota. They later moved to Austin where Patrick was employed as an electrician. After his death in 1967, Hazel obtained work as a nurse’s aide at St. Olaf Hospital.

Hazel was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a resident at St. Mark’s for 14 years and we thank them for the care and attention that Hazel received during that time.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth (Sandra) Guckeen, Austin, and Duane (Ilene) Guckeen, Forest Lake, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Yvonne Guckeen, LeSueur, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Joan (Tim) Cichoski, Patrick (Michelle) Guckeen, Nancy (John) Erkenbrack, Daniel (Cathy) Guckeen, Amy (Seth) Tolson, Darin Guckeen, Darcie Guckeen, David Guckeen, and Shawn Guckeen; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, George; and sisters, Fran and Fern.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Patrick; son, James; daughter-in-law, Shirley Guckeen; great-granddaughter, Danielle; three brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 28, 2017, at St. Mark’s Chapel with the Rev. James Groleau officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at St. Mark’s on Friday. Interment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Blue Earth.

Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
