A child injured in 2015 and his family have reached a $100,000 settlement with the owners of an Austin campground they sued for negligence.

Mower County Judge Kevin Siefken approved the $100,000 settlement last week between the family and Beaver Trails Jellystone Park, 21943 630th Ave., Austin, after the boy was injured on a train ride at the campground on July 26, 2015.

According to court records, the boy was on a ride, which was pulled by a golf cart, when he fell and suffered “serious injuries” to his right leg. The family sued, arguing the boy was injured due to the operator’s negligence and lack of safety harnesses.

The $100,000 settlement will see just under $59,000 going to the minor, with the money being put in a certificate of deposit or savings account until the minor turns 18. From that, about $40,500 in total attorney fees will be paid.

The child’s outstanding medical lien will also be satisfied.
