Money taken from late husband’s wallet, piggy bank; 2 break-ins reported Wednesday

The Austin Police Department and Mower County Sheriff’s Office responded to two break-ins later Wednesday in Austin and Mapleview.
Mapleview break-in
The sheriff’s office responded to a burglary on the 130th block of Broadway Street in Mapleview, according to Mower County Sheriff Terese Amazi.
The resident found the window in her bedroom had the screen cut and was open. She says she did not hear anything because she was watching TV in her living room.
Forty dollars was missing from her purse, as was $5 from her late husband’s wallet and a yellow piggy bank.
At 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, a neighbor called to report someone prowling around the house. He was described as a male of unknown ethnicity wearing a heavy coat and a large hat.
The investigation is on-going.
Austin break-in
Austin police responded to a burglary at the 1400 block of 12th Street Southwest at 12:21 p.m. on Wednesday, according to Austin Police Chief Brian Krueger.
Officers found a shattered porch window and a shattered glass pane on a French door leading into the residence.
A Sony TV valued at $550 and a Dish Network cable box were missing.
Officers gathered blood at the scene that has been submitted for processing. They have no suspects at the moment.
