Margaret Gerber Armstrong, 102

Margaret Gerber Armstrong, 102, of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away on March 4, 2017. She was born Jan. 17, 1915, on a farm near Johnsburg, Minnesota, to Fred and Julia Gerber. After attending school in Johnsburg, Minnesota, and Adams, Minnesota, she graduated from St. Augustine High School in Austin in 1933. She then attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1938 with a degree in home economics. After teaching for one year, she then worked with the Farm Security Administration. During World War ll, she became one the first occupational therapists working with the wounded in veteran hospitals. While working in California, she met Lorenz Armstrong, a U.S. Weather Bureau meteorologist. They were married in Van Nuys, California, on Oct. 23,1948. After Lorenz was transferred to Washington D.C., they made their home in Fairfax, where they raised five children.

Margaret is survived by her children, Doris (Bob) Goldman, Richard (Patty) Armstrong, Robert (Cynthia) Armstrong, Susan (Willard) Boyce and Nancy (Bill) Holet;12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She is survived by sister, Mary Brumm, brothers Adrian (Elaine) Gerber, and Roger Gerber.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Evangeline Landherr and Helen Noterman, brothers-in-law, Julius Brumm, Wilmer Landherr, and Arnold Noterman, sister-in-law, Mary L. Gerber, nephew and spouse, David and Diana Brumm, and niece, Julie Noterman.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on Monday, March 13, 2017, at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Fairfax with internment at Fairfax Memorial Park.
