Alumni update: Hayfield grad Wagner starting strong for Gophers

SOFTBALL
Hayfield grad Dani Wagner is making a lot of noise for the No. 10 ranked Gophers (14-0 overall) early on.
Wagner is hitting .359 with 3 homers, 1 double, 1 triple and 12 RBIs as she has started all 14 games for Minnesota. Wagner hit a walk-off single to help the Gophers beat Notre Dame in the ACC/B1G challenge.
BASKETBALL
Austin grads Zach Wessels and Tom Aase recently finished up their junior season at the University of Sioux Falls. The Cougars finished 15-17 overall after they lost 79-68 to Southwest Minnesota State in the NSIC tournament Sunday.
Wessels had 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists in that loss and Aase had six points, four rebounds and three blocks. Aase also set the career blocks record for the Cougars at the DII level this season.
Austin grad Bret Lukes, a junior at Hamline University, was named to the Sportmanship team this season.
The Pipers finished 14-12 overall and Lukes had five points in their season-ending 86-58 loss.
