Hayfield girls basketball team team officially clinched the HVL Blue Division when it beat Cannon Falls (4-20 overall, 2-13 HVL) 67-34 in Hayfield Thursday.
Olivia Matti scored 20 points for the Vikings (21-4 overall, 14-2 HVL). The first half of the game was played in Hayfield’s new gym and the second half was played in the old gym, due to an electrical issue.
Hayfield will now play in the HVL title game for the second time in school history when it plays at Kasson-Mantorville 7 p.m. Monday. Hayfield’s only other appearance in the HVL title game was in 2013 when it lost to Pine Island.
“The girls know what an accomplishment it is. The HVL is always tough and there’s always good teams,” Hayfield co-head coach Kasey Krekling said. “We’re very happy to be representing the Blue side and we’re happy to get another shot at Kasson. We never shy away from tough games.”
