The No. 7 ranked Austin boys basketball team had to overcome a hot start by Owatonna to win 72-62 on the road Thursday.
Dalton Kubista came out shooting for the Huskies (12-4 overall, 10-3 Big Nine) as he scored 16 of his 26 points in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Owatonna led 21-14 early in the game.
“He just started out on fire and we did a poor job early of recognizing where he was at,” Austin head coach Kris Fadness said of Kubista. “Then we settled down and started playing our style of ball.”
Owatonna was within 53-51 with 6:58 left in the game when Both Gach, who had 21 points, six rebounds and seven assists, hit a three-pointer for the Packers (15-1 overall, 12-1 Big Nine) to make it a 56-51 game. Oman Oman added eight points down the stretch to ice the game.
“I’m happy with our guys,” Fadness said. “Our energy level and communication was good tonight.”
