Virginia L. Janson, 68, of Austin, Minnesota, died Saturday, Jan, 14, 2017, at her home in Austin.
Virginia L. Burandt was born Sept. 24, 1948, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Richard and Shirley (Norrbom) Burandt. She graduated from high school in Watertown, Minnesota, and later attended Austin Vo-Tech. On Sept. 8, 1971, she was united in marriage to Frederick “Fred” J. Rasinski in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Austin and Fred died on Feb. 12, 1975. Virginia worked for Enger Abstract Company before moving to the auditor’s office at the Mower County Courthouse, retiring in 2008. Virginia married James Janson on Oct. 24, 1976. The couple later divorced. In her early years, Virginia was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church, later joining the Church of Christ in Austin. She was a member of the Elks Club Does as well a leader for the Girl Scouts. Virginia enjoyed doing latch work in her spare time.
Survivors include her daughters, Sheryl Tichy of Atascadero, California, Wendy (Frank Kries) Janson of Rochester, New York, and Rebecca (Jay) Helfritz of Austin; a sister, Bonnie (Nick) Walker; seven brothers, Gerald Burandt, Dale (Ruth) Burandt, David Burandt, Ron Burandt, Howard Burandt, Paul Burandt and Scott (Lona) Burandt; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Fred J. Rasinski.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, 2017, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin, with the Rev. Dr. Steve DeFor officiating. Interment will take place at 1:35 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2017, in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.
