Seventh-grader tops geography bee at Pacelli

Seventh grader Max Nuss was named the Geography Bee winner at Pacelli.

Sixth graders Nathan Schmidt and Winston Walkup were the second and third place finishers.

Nuss will advance to take a state qualifying test which is administered online through the school registration website. The test will be scored and ranked with the scores of other students taking the Minnesota test. The top 100-scoring students will be invited to the State Bee.

The school will be contacted  via email by March 3, 2017, about whether or not the student qualifies for the State Bee. If the student does qualify, email notification will also be sent to the parent/guardian. If the student does not qualify, email notification will only be sent to the school. A list of qualified students will be posted on each state National Geographic Bee website at http://nationalgeographic.org/bee/state-be

Finalists competed on Wednesday. They were Lizzy Frederick and Grace Schara, fourth grade; Isaac Nelsen and Jack Klingfus, fifth grade; Winston Walkup and Nathan Schmidt, sixth grade; Max Nuss and Ronaldo Rubio, seventh grade; and Jayden Lewis and Ervin Noyola, eighth grade.

Finalists were chosen from each grade classroom. Preliminary rounds were conducted in each classroom to determine the 10 participants. During the school geography bee one winner was selected to move on.
