Lorraine Benson, 80

Lorraine Benson, 80, of Edina, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017, at Homestead Hospice House in Owatonna, Minnesota, following a brief cancer journey.
She was born May 25, 1936, in Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Raymond and Anna (Reyant) Mittelstadt. She grew up in Austin where she attended school. She graduated from Austin Pacelli High School, Class of 1954. Following her schooling she moved to Richfield where she worked as a dental hygienist. In 1972, she met the love of her life, Michael Benson, at a Hopkins bar. The couple was married on Nov. 6, 1974, in Chicago. They made their home in Chicago until Mike’s death in March 1994. Lorraine moved back to Minnesota in July, 1995, and purchased a condo in Edina. She worked at Jones Harris Nursing Home until her retirement at age 70. In her retirement, she volunteered at Fairview Southdale Hospital and her church, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Lorraine enjoyed traveling, playing golf, walks around Lake Harriet, watching the Chicago Bears and was an avid reader. She also was a fabulous cook and enjoyed trying new dishes and entertaining family and friends.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Dee Ann (Robert) Amberg of Geneva, Deb (Wendell) Wilker of Owatonna, David Kubista of Denver, Colorado, Jenine Kubista of Owatonna, Kelly Kubista of Owatonna, Raymond (Tabatha) Kubista of Lester Prairie, Minnesota, and Michael Kasper of Owatonna and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Mittelstadt; husband, Michael; and sister and brother-in-law, Florence (Robert) Kasper.
Visitation will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Owatonna with Joan Gecik officiating. Inurnment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Owatonna.
Memorials are preferred to Homestead Hospice House of Owatonna or the American Cancer Society.
