GRAND MEADOW —Grand Meadow senior Christophor Bain did a lot of running for the Superlarks as they’ve won the last four state nine man state football titles. Now he’s ready to run to the next level.
Bain recently made his verbal commitment to play football at Division II Southwest Minnesota State University, which is located in Marshall, Minn., with an athletic scholarship.
“It’s a relief to get it over with. It was a really hard choice,” Bain said. “They were calling me a lot and when I went there on a game day I really liked their facilities. The coaches are really nice and they have a great atmosphere.”
Bain had also been looking at the University of North Dakota, but he’s excited about what his potential is with the Mustangs, who went 5-6 overall last season. GM grad Caleb Liechtnam recently finished up a two-year stint at defensive back at SMSU and Bain is projected to be a running back.
Bain has already been preparing to play college football with his two older brothers, who both played at Hamline University.
“They tell me all the time that I need to keep lifting,” he said. “Even at DIII, everybody is bigger than the nine man guys. I did their college workouts with them over the summer and I’m doing them again.”
Playing with the Mustangs will give Bain a chance to play against his former Grand Meadow teammate Landon Jacobson, who is a running back at Winona State University. Jacobson was slated to see some playing time this past season for the Warriors, but he suffered a knee injury that ended his season before it began.

Bain said Jacobson texted him to congratulate him after he made his commitment.
“It’ll be a great time. I’m excited,” Bain said. “To me [Jacobson] was the best running back coming out of Grand Meadow and i wanted to be like him.”
Bain is coming off a dominant senior season where he racked up 2,337 rushing yards (12.2 per carry) and 41 TDs and he caught 10 passes for 266 yards and a TD. Bain, who holds the all-time GM TD record with 99 career scores, was named third team All-State, he played in the Minnesota All-Star game and he was a Mr. Football candidate.
Despite having a lot of success on the field, Bain said his most fond memories are the bonds he formed with his teammates over the past four years.
“The experience of being with the team was the best part. Just going out to eat and going to the hotels,” Bain said. “The games were fun too, but we kind of became a family.”
