Donald Edward Larick, 88

Donald Edward Larick, 88, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died at his home on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2017.

Donald was born May 11, 1936, to Alvin and Verna (Nichol) Larick in Northwood, Iowa. He graduated from Austin High School in 1954. After serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1957, Donald returned to the Brownsdale area where he farmed for a brief time. He moved to Houston, Texas, and began employment with the Farmer Brothers Coffee Company. In the early 1970s, he was able to transfer back to Minnesota and continue his career with Farmer Brothers. On Dec. 26, 1980, he married Carol Malmen in Minneapolis. During this time, he also farmed and raised short horn cattle. In 1999, he retired after a 36-year career and moved to southwest Colorado where they lived for four years. In 2003, Donald and Carol moved back to their current home in Brownsdale.

Donald is survived by his wife, Carol Larick, Brownsdale; two daughters, Denise Martinez, Pearland, Texas, and Lori and Greg Hughes, Houston, Texas; grandson, Bryan and Stephanie Martinez; granddaughter, Hayley Hughes; great-grandchildren, Braxton Martinez and Brooklynn Martinez, sisters: Nathelle Cattanach, Marshfield, Massachusetts, and Lorvene Warfield, Pueblo, Colorado; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Verna Larick; two brothers, Franklin and John; and sister Catherine.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the First Baptist Church, Brownsdale, with Pastor Ken Petzold officiating. Private interment will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery, Preston, Minnesota, at a later date. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Wednesday.
