The Packers (8-8 overall, 5-6 Big Nine) scored two goals in the last nine minutes of the game to get the win as Tyler Hoban scored his first career varsity goal to put Austin up for good with 5:24 left in the game after Dylan Svobovda tied the game at 4-4 with 8:49 left.
Austin started the third period by killing a Mayo power play to pick up the momentum.
“The third period was good for us,” Austin head coach Jason Merritt said. “We battled back. We kept playing hard and didn’t quit. The kids found some soft ice to make plays and we got the goals when we needed them.”
Bryar Flanders and Brayden Merritt each had a goal and an assist, Kory Potach had one goal, and Hunter Guyette, Kaleb Ree and Jacob Halsey all had one assist.
Ryan Flanders had 25 saves in net for the Packers, who had 36 shots on goal.
