Bernadette L. ‘Bernie’ Stephens, 89

Bernadette L. “Bernie” Stephens, 89, of Austin, died Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin.

Bernie was born Oct. 10, 1927, in the Township of McPherson, County of Blue Earth, Minnesota, to Grant and Margaret Davis. She grew up and attended school in Waseca, Minnesota.

Bernie loved and devoted her life to her parents, and five children: Bruce (Mary) Iverson, Barbara (Chet) Gerhart, Mary (Tom) Regenscheid, Michael (Amy) Stephens, Michelle Williams (Edward Young). Her labor of love was to care for both of her parents in her home until they passed.

Bernie was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She enjoyed archery and gardening in her younger years, reading, caring for animals, watching the Vikings (but, only when they were not losing), mysteries and game shows, and of course would not miss Judge Judy’s verdict for any reason.

Survivors include four of her five children; 22 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Michael Stephens; brother, Kenneth Davis; and sister, Delores Marreel.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with Father Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 5 p.m. CCW rosary on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. and also one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The casket bearers will be Joshua Steichen, Zachary Steichen, Brian Iverson, Brent Iverson, Troy Williams and Drew Williams.
