The No. 6 ranked Lyle-Pacelli girls basketball team showed its depth as a couple of its younger players stepped up their game in a 68-36 win over Southland in Adams Saturday.

Sophomore Abby Bollingberg had 18 points for the Athletics (14-3 overall) and freshman Olivia Christianson filled up the box score as she compiled nine points, eight steals, four rebounds and four assists.

“I thought our younger kids, Abby and Olivia in particular, kind of got us going,” LP head coach Justin Morris said. “We’ve got to be more consistent in terms of our effort and engagement on a night to night basis.”

Southland (4-9 overall) pulled within 30-20 early in the second half after Allison Bottema came up with a steal and a lay-up. The Athletics had a big response when they used a 28-2 run over the next nine minutes to put the game out of reach.

Bollingberg, who is LP’s first player off the bench, has picked up her scoring over the last week and she said she doesn’t mind not starting.

“My job is to come in and bring energy,” Bollingberg said. “I like being able to watch what’s open before I go in and it’s a role that I’m happy with. The coaches have really given me a lot of confidence and they’re having me shoot more.”
