Brownsdale firefighters were called to a barn fire at an abandoned building site at 61000 230th St. about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Mower County Sheriff Therese Amazi.

Hodgman Drainage of Dodge Center was clearing the site and alerted fire authorities to its burning of material on the property.

However, it is thought a spark from a burn pile may have ignited the nearby barn, prompting the company to contact the fire department.
