A Mower County campground is ready to pitch up an expansion.

The Mower County board voted 4-0 with Tony Bennett absent to approve a conditional use permit for Brookside Campground to add 32 recreational vehicle sites with water, sewer and electrical hookups.

Owners Dondi and Karla Stender have owned the campground for over two years, and Dondi said one of their long-term goals has been to expand.

With the change, Brookside will have more than 140 camp sites.

He added they have 35 people waiting for seasonal sites.

“The last thing you want to do as a business owner is turn people away,” he said.

The site has a new septic system to meet the added infrastructure needs.

A member of the Udolpho Township board spoke in support of the expansion and praised the business, as did county board members.

“It’s a nice clean operation,” Commissioner Tim Gabrielson said.

The campground celebrated its 50th anniversary in June.
