Austin FD responds to 2 fires

The Austin Fire Department responded to two kitchen fires Thursday night, but neither caused serious damage.

At 6:47 p.m., fire fighters and Austin police responded to the 300 block of Fifth Street Northwest after oil caught fire in a pan on a stove, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Flames were visible when firefighters arrived, but they were able to contain the fire to the pan. However, there was much smoke in the residence.

Firefighters then ventilated the home and cleared the scene at 7:20 p.m.

In a second incident, crews responded to an oven fire on the 1800 block of 16th Avenue Southwest at around 7 p.m. They ventilated the home for smoke and cleared the scene at 7:34 p.m.
