Alumni Update: BP’s Hagan is playing big minutes for Northern Iowa

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Blooming Prairie grad Taylor Hagen has started the first six games of her sophomore season at the University of Northern Iowa.

Hagen had six points and four rebounds in a 79-68 win over Denver Nov. 26.

Hagen is averaging 5 points, 2.8 rebounds and she has blocked 4 shots and grabbed 5 steals while shooting 42.9 percent from the field for the Panthers (4-2 overall).

BP grad Madison Worke has played in four of seven games for Winona State University this season. Worke is averaging 1.8 points and 1 rebound per game as she is shooting 50 percent from the field for the Warriors (6-1 overall).

Southland grad Jana Schammel has started all eight games at John Brown University this season.

Schammel is averaging 8.1 points while shooting 43 percent on 3-pointers.

Pacelli grad Sarah Holtz is off to a strong start at Luther College (2-3 overall).

Holtz is averaging 6 points and 4 rebounds per game, while shooting 45 percent off the bench.

Austin grad Jenna Svoboda has started all four games for RCTC this season and she’s averaging 5.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game for the Yellowjackets (2-2 overall).

Grand Meadow grad Rio Landers is averring 7 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field at Dordt College (5-3 overall).

Austin grad Mer Gach has played in eight games at Lake Region College this season.

Gach is averaging 5.5 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game for LRS (6-3 overall), an NJCAA Division I school in Devils Lake, N.D.

MEN’S BASKETBALL

Austin grads Zach Wessels and Tom Aase continue to play solid rotation spots at the University of Sioux Falls.

Wessels started and scored four points and Aase came off the bench to grab a pair of rebounds and block two shots in a 74-72 loss to Southwest Minnesota State Nov. 29.

On the season, Wessels has started six games and is averaging 5.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and two assists per game, while shooting 60 percent from the field.

Aase has started one game, while averaging 4.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.25 blocks, while shooting 52 percent from the field. Aase, a red-shirt junior, now has more than 100 career blocks for the Cougars (3-5 overall).

Austin grad Bret Lukes has played in in all four games at Hamline University this season.

Lukes is averaging 4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Pipers (3-1 overall).

Austin grad Gach Gach is averaging 18.8 points, 5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and .9 steals per game, while shooting 44.5 percent on 3-pointers at North Dakota State College of Science.

Hayfield grad Cole Kruger has transferred from Upper Iowa to Saint Mary’s University and he has started all three games for the Cardinals.

Kruger scored 17 points in his first game at Saint Mary’s, which was an 84-50 win over Martin Luther.

Kruger is averaging 12 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
