The Mower County Senior Center hosted nearly 100 veterans, spouses and guests on Tuesday, Nov. 15, for an appreciation lunch sponsored by Mayer Funeral Home.
The group was treated to deep pit barbecue chicken, baked beans and potato salad provided by Mayer and served by their staff along with staff from MCSC.
“We are so thankful to the veterans for their service. We were proud to serve them. We appreciate the partnership of Mayer. Partnership like theirs allow us to offer many benefits to the seniors,” said Sara Schafer, Director of the senior center.
The short program included a patriotic poem, “A Common Bond,” written by Vietnam era veteran, Bob Beskar, and a Tribute Song, “Veterans of the U.S.A.” sung by Scott Borchers of Mayer Funeral Home.
“It was a great turnout,” said Kathy Dufault, funeral director from Mayer. “And we were honored to be serving those who have served.”
