Loren Raymond Hammermeister, 77, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at his home in Austin.

He was born Oct. 4, 1939, in Dexter, Minnesota, the son of Gus and Thelma (Underdahl) Hammermeister. A graduate of Elkton High School, Loren worked for Quarve/Anderson Construction for 35 years and Fraser Construction for five years. On April 9, 1966, Loren married Mary Joy Brands in Austin. The couple raised 3 daughters. He was a member of Union Local 49, and enjoyed fishing, camping and boating. In his spare time, he could be found tinkering in the garage or in the basement. He was a MacGyver in his own right, and no problem went unsolved. He truly enjoyed tackling the fix-it issues that came to him. Loren’s most treasured time was that spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Loren is survived by his wife Mary Hammermeister of Austin, Minnesota; his children Ann (Dan) Williamson of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Debra (Don) Conway of Shakopee, Minnesota, and Lora (Adam) Chiabotti of St. Peter, Minnesota; grandchildren Marissa, Elizabeth and Natalie Williamson, Alaena Chiabotti and Baby Boy Chiabotti; brother Stan (Doris) Hammermeister of Bellevue, Nebraska, and sister Beverly (Dave) Erickson of Stewartville, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents Gus and Thelma Hammermeister, his brother Delano Hammermeister and his sister Barb Rieken.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Austin, with Pastor Robert Bailey officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7 at Worlein Funeral Home. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin.
