Unveiling a new look; Wal-Mart celebrates grand reopening after facelift, product additions

Austin’s Wal-Mart is celebrating a new look and more than a thousand new products.

After a Friday ribbon cutting, the newly remodeled Wal-Mart Supercenter, 1000 18th Ave. NW, is hosting a grand reopening celebration this weekend with samples and family-friendly activities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Managers say customers have already been excited to see the changes.

“They love it,”said co-manager Natalie Brazil. “I’ve seen increased traffic flow.”

The remodel, completed over the past eight weeks, includes new paint for the building’s exterior and new paint and graphics inside along with some new lighting. The floors also got a new gloss finish.

It also includes a new fresh produce experience and remodeled pharmacy. The store also added fresh donuts and bread to Wal-Mart’s bakery options.

Customers will also see new gluten-free and pharmacy products included among about 1,500 new products. Brazil said the new products and changes were completed with the help of customer feedback.

“We’re really getting some good feedback,” she said.

The store also added self-checkouts and a vision center.

Customers can also expect a new and improved customer service center with Money Services and Wal-Mart Pickup.

The store includes a remodeled pharmacy with a full range of products, immunizations and services. Wal-Mart pharmacists are ready to assist customers with product and prescription questions. Austin residents can easily transfer prescriptions and order refills on the go with the Wal-Mart mobile app.

And, customers can pick up millions of items on Walmart.com, many of which can be shipped for free to any Wal-Mart store through Wal-Mart Pickup.

Austin’s 204,000 square-foot Wal-Mart opened in 2008.
