Hormel Foods Corp. is looking to engage the community in a tasty scavenger hunt.

As part of its 125th anniversary celebrations, Hormel Foods is bringing five food trucks from the company and its subsidiaries — the Jennie-O, Applegate Farms, MuscleMilk, Black Label Bacon and the Spamerican Tour trucks — to various locations on July 28.

“We wanted to create an event that involved our brands and in a fun way with the community,” Corporate Communications Manager Natalie Baudler said.

To build up to the July 29 community celebration and concert by The Band Perry, the five trucks will be placed around town at well known Austin destinations from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on July 28. Hormel picked notable locations within the city of Austin.

“It’s been a really fun thing to set up,” Baudler said. “It’s been a team effort for our team to come up with this event and try to create enough buzz to make it a really fun event for people, and we’re excited for it.”

Hormel is posting riddles, photo clues and other hints on its social media leading up to July 28 to serve as a scavenger hunt to help lead people to the trucks around town.

The company will post additional clues on social media that night, which should get easier as the night goes on and there could be clues for the next ones at each stop.

Each truck will also feature samples and a few other things for photo opportunities.

If people take selfies at the trucks and post them to social media with #Hormel125, they’ll be entered into a drawing to win one of five prize packages.

All of the food trucks will be included in the rest of the Hormel 125th anniversary celebrations the rest of the week.

The Spamerican Tour kicked off its second year this spring, and the tour will feature a Spam food truck stopping at 16 locations across the country through August. The Austin stop is its second to last stop before it goes to the Uptown Art Fair in Minneapolis Aug. 1-8. The tour showcases Spam recipes, and this year’s theme has aimed to give back to those who have serve and are serving in the U.S. Military.

Jennie-O’s food truck travels to places like college campuses for its Make the Switch campaign on switching to turkey. Applegate’s truck promotes The Cleaner Wiener campaign for its more natural hotdogs. The Black Label Bacon Truck featured a bacon grease-fueled motorcycle as part of the Driven by Bacon campaign a few years ago. The motorcycle traveled across the country to the Bacon Film Festival in San Diego, California.

As of mid-week, 227 people were listed as going and another 414 people were interested going on the event’s Facebook page, which can be found at www.facebook.com/events/1819143291647789/.
