ST. PAUL — Lyle-Pacelli freshman Kayla Christopherson made her first trip to the Minnesota Class A state track and field meet count as she was able to get on the podium with a solid run.
Christopherson finished in seventh place in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:27.51. She was one second behind Stewartville’s Chrissy Lofgren, who took sixth, and Winona Cotter seventh grader Grace Ping won the race with a time of 10:31.27.
“I didn’t run my fastest in this weather, but I don’t know if a lot of people did and I guess that kind of equals it out,” Christopherson said. “I went out real fast in my first mile at sections and today I wanted to store my energy for my second mile. I guess that didn’t work out too well due to a number of factors.”
Christopherson said it was a good feeling to get on the podium and she was pleased with the state experience.
“It’s an honor,” she said. “I want to thank God, all of the people who have prayed for me and all of the people that came out to watch me.”
Lyle-Pacelli senior Sarah Holtz finished 12th place in the high jump with a height of 4-9. Kendra Ludeman of Tracy-Milroy won the high jump with a 5-3.
The GMLOKS 4 x 200-meter relay team of Jordyn Glynn, Lauren Buchholtz, Emily Hovden and Sydney Bendtsen advanced to Saturday’s finals with an eighth place finish in the preliminaries. GMLOKS ran a time of 1:46.65.
Buccholtz also advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash.
