Edward James Levy Jr., 93, of Brownsdale, Minnesota, died Tuesday morning, June 21, 2016, at Fieldcrest Care Center in Hayfield.

He was born Nov. 10, 1922, in Mower County, Minnesota, the son of Edward Sr. and Ethel (Grant) Levy. Edward lived his entire life in the Austin/Brownsdale area, making his living as a farmer and a carpenter. On November 11, 1942, he was united in marriage to Frances Mary Hall in Waseca, Minnesota. The couple raised four children. Edward loved Jesus and his church family. His favorite pastimes included riding his three-wheeled bike around Brownsdale, gardening, cooking and canning, playing bingo, listening to old time music, and watching the Lone Ranger. Ed especially enjoyed fishing and teaching his grandchildren to fish. His visits with family and friends were very dear to him. In February 2016, he moved to Fieldcrest Care Center, where he loved the activities available to him there. His favorite game was Farkle, which he called ‘Sparkle’. Ed will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his children Joy (Darrell) Oudekirk of Austin, Nancy (James) Grant of Renville, Robben (Eugene) Crabtree of Brownsdale, his daughter-in-law Connie Levy of Mason City; his brother Delmar Levy of Elkton and sisters Marilyn (Dave) Tebay of Austin and Marion Lobbins of Willmar; his grandchildren Larry (Robyn) Oudekirk, Curt (Ann) Oudekirk, Pam (Troy) Bradshaw, Chris (Julie) Oudekirk, David (Linda) Levy, Julie (Al) Byrne, Kevin Grant, Kelly (Tom) Beekman, Kory (Amy) Grant, Kara (John) Angwin, Heather and Brady Crabtree; 27 great grandchildren, 2 great-great- grandsons. Ed was preceded in death by his parents Edward Sr. and Ethel Levy, his wife Frances Levy, his son Roger Levy, and three brothers Robert, Leonard, and John Levy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Brownsdale United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Bengtson officiating. The Levy family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at the church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Brownsdale United Methodist Church. Please bring a memory of Ed to share with his family. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. In accordance with his wishes, Edward’s body will be donated to the Mayo Anatomical Bequest Program.
