Ray Monson, 82, of LeRoy, Minnesota, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, Minnesota.
Ray W. Monson was born Dec. 31, 1933, in Austin, Minnesota, to Carl and Elva (Erickson) Monson. He graduated from Adams High School in Adams, Minnesota. On June 7, 1959, Ray was united in marriage to Monna Dunn in Spring Valley, Minnesota, and they later divorced. Ray worked on his farm and did carpentry work in the LeRoy area.
Ray enjoyed reading, mowing the lawn, his guns, and hunting with his brothers. He especially adored his family and grandchildren; they brought him the most joy. Ray was a humble and kind man, leaving a wonderful impression on everyone that met him. He was a man of few words but meant what he said.
Ray is survived by his children, Patricia “Patty” (Todd) Stockdale of LeRoy, Minnesota, Rhea (Patrick) Steinkamp of LeRoy, Minnesota, and Diane (Stacy) Jech of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Anne Hansen (Josh) Gathje, Reed Hansen, Chelsea Rich, Sarah (Patrick Grobe) Rich, Tony Steinkamp, Samantha Steinkamp, Dylan Jech, and Max Jech; five great grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Leslie) Tapp of Dexter, Minnesota; and brother, Alan (Nadine) Monson of Belvidere, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elva, wife, Monna, son, Christopher, brothers, Cecil, Loren and David.
Funeral services for Ray Monson will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the First Presbyterian Church in LeRoy, Minnesota, with Pastor John Kerr officiating. Burial will take place in the LeRoy Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
