Michalene “Mickey” Souhrada, 56, of Grand Meadow, Minnesota passed away on Monday, May 9, 2016, at her home.

Michalene Fay Downing was born June 19, 1959, in Moline, Illinois, to Charles and Katherine (Schlenzen) Downing. She was a graduate of the Orion High School in Orion, Illinois. On Sept. 17, 1977, Mickey was united in marriage to Martin Souhrada in Osco, Illinois. Throughout her life, Mickey worked at the Cresco Hospital, Charter House, Home Federal, and most recently at Mayo Clinic. Mickey had a love of education. She homeschooled her children, loved to read and learn, taught her coworkers everything she knew, and recently graduated from the Upper Iowa University with a master’s degree in Higher Education Administration. Mickey was an inspiration to her whole family. She had a great sense of humor, was well liked by many, cared for people, and most of all was a loving mother. Mickey also enjoyed watching her husband work in the garden, the smell of flowers, listening to music, the ocean, and was an animal lover. To continue on being a giving person, Mickey’s wishes to be an organ donor were granted.
Mickey is survived by her husband of 38 years, Martin of Grand Meadow, Minnesota; children, Tia Souhrada of Texas, Crystel Souhrada of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, Jolene Souhrada of Grand Meadow, Minnesota, and Ricky Souhrada of Minnesota; siblings, Charlene (Mike) Lindbeck of Illinois, Bill (Kathy) Downing of Illinois, Richard (Pam) Downing ofIllinois, and Lyle (Loretta) Downing of Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Michalene “Mickey” Souhrada will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Stewartville United Methodist Church, 900 John Wesley Ave. NW, Stewartville, Minnesota 55976 along with Martin’s Benefit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Katherine.
