LaVern C. Haas, 88, of Austin, Minnesota died Sunday morning, May 15, 2016, at Our House Assisted Living in Austin.

He was born Oct. 13, 1927 in rural Lyle, Minnesota to Carl and Clara (Helgeson) Haas. A 1945 Lyle High School graduate, LaVern was a self-employed trucker for many years. He also drove a bulk fuel truck, worked for Hormel Foods Corporation for 17 ½ years and retired from Streeters. On March 13, 1954, LaVern married Donna Miller at the First United Methodist Church in Austin, where they remained lifelong members. The couple raised one daughter. LaVern liked to take photographs in Austin, and enjoyed gardening and going out to eat. He had one of the early cellphones. LaVern doted on his wife Donna. A favorite activity of theirs was traveling to Red Wing to see the leaves change in the fall. LaVern was a very kind man, and he enjoyed every day of his life. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

LaVern is survived by his wife Donna Haas of Austin; his daughter Linda (Dennis) Sershen of Hanover, Minnesota; three grandchildren Tiffany (Jon) Bueckers, Shawn (Bridget) Moon, Heath (Michelle) Sershen; four great-grandchildren Therin Bueckers and Aries Bueckers, Starker Sershen and Alina Sershen; a sister, Delores (Virgil Crager) Kaihoi of Texas; a brother, Orin (Nancy) Haas of Fremont, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Clara Haas.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Austin with Rev. Dennis Tamke officiating. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery, Austin.
