A vehicle fire destroyed a car and damaged a house window on Sunday.

At about 3:40 p.m., Austin police officers responded to the 600 block of 10th Street Northeast. Upon arrival, officers saw the front end of a 1984 Chevy Caprice fully engulfed in flames, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

An officer attempted to extinguish the fire with brief success before Austin Fire Department arrived. The victim said he was starting the car when it backfired and then his child said it was on fire.
