Best Bets: A weekend of sports before Memorial Day

If you are a sports fiend then this is the weekend for you as high school softball tournaments are in high gear along with some amateur football and even MMA fights. And then it’s a Monday to remember as the area celebrates Memorial Day by honoring those that served.
1. Section softball
All day Friday and Saturday, Todd Park north diamonds
Three sections will be playing their way further into the post season. Games in Section 1A, 1AA, 1AAA, and 4AAAA will all be playing so there will be plenty of action for softball lovers. For more information call 507-433-1881.
2. SE Minnesota Warhawks,
4 p.m. Saturday
This area’s amateur football team, the Southeast Minnesota Warhawks, will be provided plenty of hits and action in its second home game of the season when they take on the Watertown Rebels at Wescott Athletic Complex.
3. Driller MMA Fights
6 p.m. Saturday
The hits keep coming Saturday night with the return of the Driller MMA Fights at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center. For more information call 507-433-8000.
4. Memorial Day
All day
Monday will be a day to remember as Austin celebrates with its veterans who served at plenty of Memorial Day events both in town and the surrounding area. In Austin the events get kicked off with a flag raising at the VFW and American Legion at 6:50 a.m. A parade will be held at 8:45 p.m. followed by a Memorial Day Service at Oakwood Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. Cemetery services will be taking place throughout the county as well.
